In this joint webinar, we teamed up with Vizoo to showcase a seamless digital material workflow, from physical fabric scan to high-fidelity 3D simulation, designed to accelerate product development and boost design accuracy.
Eleanor Yeh, Senior 3D Consultant at Vizoo, and Savio Thomas, Sales Engineer from Browzwear, led the session. Together, they demonstrated how to capture, prepare, and apply digital materials to create photorealistic, physics-ready 3D garments with precision and speed.
The webinar began with an in-depth demonstration of Vizoo’s xTex scanner, showing how to capture detailed fabric samples under multiple lighting conditions. This process generates high-quality texture maps that represent the structure, shininess, metalness, and transparency of materials, including complex fabrics like metallic fibers and mesh.
The captured images are processed directly within Vizoo’s software, where users can crop scans, create seamless tiles, and fine-tune properties such as transparency and roughness to ensure digital materials accurately reflect their physical counterparts.
Next, the workflow included adding true-to-life physical properties using a comprehensive physics database tailored for 3D simulation. This allows the digital fabric to drape and behave realistically when applied to virtual garments.
Materials are then packaged into U3M files, an open, vendor-neutral format that bundles all texture maps with measured physics data. These files can be seamlessly imported into Browzwear’s V-Stitcher software, eliminating the need for manual adjustments and accelerating the design process.
The webinar showcased how to efficiently create multicolor variations using color masks generated in Vizoo’s software. These masks separate each color in a fabric, enabling precise recoloring of individual hues directly within V-Stitcher.
By cloning and layering fabrics with assigned alpha masks, designers can produce endless colorways without external image editing or re-scanning. Updates to colorways instantly reflect in 3D views, speeding up approvals and ensuring consistent fabric physics throughout all variations.
Finally, the webinar covered advanced techniques for digitizing specialty materials, like shiny sequins and metallic fabrics. The presenters demonstrated how to adjust metalness and roughness maps to capture the sparkle and texture unique to these fabrics, ensuring photorealistic renderings suitable for marketing, e-commerce, and design reviews.
Lighting settings within Browzwear’s V-Ray rendering engine were also explored, showing how HDRIs and parametric lighting can be tuned to make digital materials pop in final visuals.
This hands-on demonstration highlights how Vizoo and Browzwear empower designers, developers, and suppliers to streamline their digital product development, from fabric digitization to garment visualization. The combined workflow enables faster, smarter, and more scalable digital product development processes with photorealistic accuracy and physical realism.
